Ashness Bridge

Charity of the Year

Keswick Scouts

Charity of the Year

Over the last few years, we have supported a charity of the year; first put to practise in 2016 by supporting Amy’s Care, in 2017 our fundraising activities went to Blood Bikes Cumbria, in 2018/19 we raised £30,000 to develop a new food technology kitchen at Keswick School and in 2019/20 a total of £9,000 went to Keswick Scouts. In total Lake District Hotels Ltd. have raised just over £58,000 over the last four years.

2019/20 - Keswick Scouts

From September 2019 through to March 2020 our fundraising activities went to Keswick Scouts, to help with the refurbishment of Ashness Hut. Originally a chicken shed, Ashness Hut was donated to Keswick Scouts, along with the land which it sits just over 70 years ago, with the aim to provide a cost effective place to stay for former evacuees and other under privileged post war children. Today the hut is in desperate need of renovation, however it is still used as part of a varied programme of activities by 93 young scouts.

Charity of the Year

Keswick Scouts has been providing adventure, opportunity and skills for life to young people for almost 110 years, and it can't happen without support from the local and wider community, through the many volunteers who give their time each week or those that provide financial support to ensure that the group can continue providing fun and low cost activities for their members.

Charity of the Year

Jonny Winter, Keswick Scouts commented , “Ashness hut is a fabulous resource, even though it's just a few miles outside the town it feels like a world apart. It's perfect for taking the young people back to nature, be it through fire-lighting, bushcraft and outdoor cooking sessions during the week or multi-day camps where we use the hut as a base to explore the local countryside - some of my favourite memories are of the adventures I had there myself as a scout!”
